Studio Calico Inspires a Blog Hop and Giveaway

Hello everyone, I'm so happy to participate in the blog hop that started over on the Studio Calico blog this morning! I love talking about what inspires me and I've talked a lot before about the various ways that I get inspired. Its usually from an image I have seen, something that sparks an idea, a specific color, a certain theme, a pattern. There are infinite ways for me to get inspiration and more often than not its comes out of left field which is pretty awesome. The Studio Calico kits are always great sources for inspiration and I love trying new and different ways to use what comes in the kit, especially with the new items that I'm seeing pop up in the kits.

Take this months The Underground Project Life kit for example, I ended up being really inspired by two very specific items in the kit. The first was the amazing masking tape and the other was one very specific card, the date stamp card.

You have already seen the Octobers layout when I shared my reveal projects, but I cannot emphasis enough how in love I was with that masking tape. The sentiments were spot on and the pumpkin card in the main kit was just a match made in heaven which made this layout come together so quickly. It an homage to fall and that tape just made the whole thing come to life.

The other item item that really inspired me this month was the date stamp card. I really wanted to use it and I know that I will on a Project Life® spread very soon but it was the design that really spoke to me. I loved the graphic feel of the dates repeated down the card, some overlapping and smudged. I quickly made a mostly digital layout yesterday and used that date stamp card as my inspiration. I used a font called Stamp to create my date and then repeated them down the page alternating sizes and overlapping a few. I grunge'd it up a bit using a grungy brush and then printed it all on a sheet of 8.5 x 11 cardstock. I added my photo, some splats of Powder Blue Mister Huey and a few gold star sequins and it was done. I can see myself using this type of design again, maybe not the dates but definitely something repeating, maybe a word or a phrase.
